It is the second largest city in Rajasthan. Rao Jodha founded the modern city of Jodhpur on May 12, 1459 AD. After its population crossed 26 lakhs, it was declared the second "metropolis" of Rajasthan.
It was also the capital of the historic princely state of Marwar of the same name. Jodhpur is also a famous tourist destination with its many magnificent palaces, forts and temples in the middle of the Thar Desert. It is also called the "Sun City" due to its climate with bright sunshine throughout the year.It was also known as the "Blue City" because of the thousands of blue houses surrounding the Mehrangarh Fort located here. Most of the old city here is built around this fort, whose watch wall has many gates, although in the last few decades the city has expanded outside this wall as well.Jodhpur serves as a perfect base centre for tourists to travel around the state.
